Prospect-Lefferts Gardens

Covering a small area Lefferts Gardens and its historic district, Lefferts Manor, began as a community of homes carefully planned by the Lefferts family, who were major 19th century landowners in the area. They placed restrictions on development during that time to prohibit single-family homes from being divided and to preserve yard and garden space. Those restrictions are still in effect, and current residents have restored those homes to their original splendor in Victorian, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Georgian, Federal and Tudor architectural styles.

Neighborhood residents form a close-knit community. The area surrounding the historic district is a diverse residential community where you'll find more rental apartments, condos, and co-ops toward the district's outer fringes.

In addition to the 526-acre Frederick Law Olmstead-designed park with its vast green lawns, lakes, a seasonal skating rink, paddleboats, tennis, baseball and about as many other organized–and unorganized–activities as you could imagine, The Brooklyn Museum and Children's Museum, the historic central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden are nearby, as are the many restaurants and shops of popular nearby neighborhoods like Park Slope, Fort Greene and Prospect Park South.

Manhattan is about a 30-minute subway ride away via the Q line from Prospect Park.
