The neighborhood referred to as Marine Park is situated around Gerritsen Inlet, the westernmost inlet of Jamaica Bay and bordered to the west by the Mill Basin inlet.
Marine Park, as its name suggests, is very much about the sea and its surrounding shores, but the park that gave the neighborhood its name is Brooklyn's largest green space. Most of Marine Park's homes are single family houses. The neighborhood is home to residents are a diverse ethnic mix. Many shops and businesses here have existed for generations, and there is a large mall nearby.
Within the boundaries of the 800-acre park you'll find facilities for bocce, tennis, basketball and handball, a one-mile running track, softball, football, cricket, and soccer fields, a nature trail and environmental center, the Marine Park Golf Course (Brooklyn's largest) and Saltmarsh Nature Center (in a restored salt water marsh). Marine Parkway Bridge, spanning Rockaway Inlet, links Brooklyn at Flatbush Avenue with Jacob Riis Park on the Rockaway peninsula. It also connects with Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive and a handful of small seaside resorts in between.
There is no direct subway connection to the area, but the B2 or B100 bus will get you to the Q/B Kings Highway subway station.
