Greenpoint Real Estate

Greenpoint

Greenpoint is a mixed residential and industrial community that forms the northwestern border of Brooklyn with the East River and the northern edge of Queens.

An influx of young people hoping to escape high Manhattan—and Williamsburg—rents have brought new life here. A tough commute to Manhattan—only the G line crosses the river—has kept Greenpoint from reaping the benefits of the real estate boom, but a steady flow of residents has kept commerce up among the storefronts along Manhattan and Nassau Avenues.

Like much of Brooklyn, families have also been drawn to the quiet tree-lined streets and friendly attitude of this stable, working-class district. Franklin Street, parallel to Manhattan Avenue, has become a commercial district with bars, cafes, restaurants, a wine shop and clothing boutiques catering to hip, young newcomers. McCarren Park—which Greenpoint shares with Williamsburg—is a center of activity on weekends, with plentiful green spaces, tennis courts, kickball and a large greenmarket on Saturdays in addition to seasonal celebrations and family activities. The 2005 rezoning of the North Side and Greenpoint waterfront and future plans to create a two-mile waterfront esplanade are expected to bring a significant number of new residents to the area in the near future.

Greenpoint is served by the G line, shuttle subway service and several bus routes to neighboring Queens.
