Dyker Heights Real Estate

Dyker Heights

Dyker Heights is a residential neighborhood in Brooklyn's southwest corner, between Bay Ridge, Gravesend Bay and the more urban neighborhood of Bensonhurst. Its hills and valleys remained rural until the early 20th century when developers built single and two-family homes, many of which still stand today, including a number of impressive mansions along 11th Avenue with magnificent views of the Narrows, Gravesend Bay and New York Bay.

The main highlight of this neighborhood is Dyker Beach Golf Course, a pristine municipal 18-hole golf course in the southern most part of Dyker Heights, one of the oldest championship golf courses in the United States. During the 1950s and '60s, it was the world’s busiest. The park also offers baseball, football, and soccer fields as well as bocce, basketball, handball and tennis courts and seasonal events. The 8.5 acre McKinley Park is here as well.

13th Avenue is lined with bakeries, delis, and restaurants. The homes of Dyker Heights are also well known for their over-the-top Christmas light displays—a big tourist attraction during the winter holidays. Dyker Heights has a small town feel even within Brooklyn and single two or three bedroom family homes can be a bargain. Those looking for nightlife and more shops and restaurants will find them on 3rd Avenue in nearby Bay Ridge.

The nearest subways stop in Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, and Boro Park which are served by the R, N and D and M lines. MTA buses, including two express buses, are the main public transportation option.
