Downtown Brooklyn is the third largest business district in New York City—after Midtown Manhattan and Lower Manhattan—and it's the civic and commercial downtown center of the borough. With public and private investments, Downtown Brooklyn hopes to turn the current business hub into an even more vibrant commercial district, growing residential neighborhood, and world-class arts community.
A City Planning initiative will improve the connections between Downtown and the adjacent neighborhoods of Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and Fort Greene, making the area a true 24-hour residential community. A number of full-service residential towers including Oro Condos, Toren and City Point appeal to a more affluent clientele that makes up this burgeoning part of Brooklyn. Seven 15-story buildings that make up the Concord Village co-op rise above Adams Street, bordering the lively and desirable residential neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO.
Borough Hall Greenmarket offers fresh produce from local farmers on the plaza in front of Borough Hall three days a week and Cadman Plaza Park provides the neighborhood with 10 acres of green space.
Downtown Brooklyn is connected to Manhattan by the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. Almost all of the city's subway lines stop here, many of them only one stop from Manhattan. The Long Island Rail Road stops at the Atlantic Terminal at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues.
