Bay Ridge is bordered on two sides by the Upper New York Bay. This former resort neighborhood provides residents with the gift of Bay views—and views of the stunning Verrazano Bridge—and proximity to the water. Bay Ridge feels like a neighborhood in the truest sense. Zoning limits were enacted to prevent what residents feared would be unwelcome changes in the nature of the district, and residents are very protective of their laid-back lifestyle. Within Bay Ridge you'll find a waterfront esplanade, rows of shops, restaurants and bakeries along Fourth and Fifth Avenues and a renovated library. The crown jewel is Owl's Head Park, where families share picnics and enjoy yoga in the summer, sled downhill in winter and watch ships sail in and out of New York Harbor—there's even a skate ramp in the park.

The Verrazano Bridge connects Staten Island to Bay Ridge, and the highways —Gowanus Expressway, Belt Parkway, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Shore Parkway, POW/MIA Memorial Parkway—that border the area make commuting easier by car. For subway access, the R train stops within the borders of Bay Ridge and connects to the N and D express lines to the north. A ferry to Manhattan may be included in future plans as well.
