The town of Riverhead in Suffolk County lies at the very center of Long Island’s North and South Forks at the mouth of the Peconic River.

The area at the juncture of Route 27 (to the South Fork) and Route 25 (to the North Fork) has been called “The marketplace for eastern Long Island.” The Mount Sinai-Wading River-Ridge areas as well as Manorville are known for their residential neighborhoods, and Riverhead’s Main Street, with its restored art deco Suffolk Theater, is undergoing a resurgence in popularity. Riverhead offers a bounty of farm stands where you can pick—or buy—apples, berries, melons and peaches, eggplant, cucumber, peas and lettuce. The Hallockville Museum Farm and Folklife Center is a living monument to Long Island’s past.

Also home to a year-round whirl of festivals, Riverhead’s festivals include the Long Island Blues Festival, Garlic Festival, and the Polish Town Street Fair and Polka Festival for more opportunities to enjoy the island’s past and present.
