The hamlet of Farmingville in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, Long Island is home to about 17,000 people. Bordered by Selden to the north, Holtsville to the south, Medford to the east and Ronkonkoma to the west, Farmingville is about 57 miles from New York City with a driving time of just over an hour.
While some of the hamlet's residents live in apartment buildings and multi-family rental homes, the majority live in single family homes. Almost half of Farmingville's housing stock was built after 1970, reflecting substantial population growth over the past 40 years. Housing values are holding steady and a thriving local economy has been consistently attracting new residents.
Farmingville feels, as some describe it, like being out in the country. The mix of Long Island's native wilderness and its reputation for suburban development is evident here. Farmingville is well-suited to lovers of the outdoor life. There are many nearby parks, trails and nature preserves for those who enjoy camping and hiking. A trip to the top of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial at Bald Hill will yield a breathtaking panoramic view of Suffolk County from its highest point. it is rumored that you can even see well into Connecticut.
There's a strongly-held sense of community in Farmingville. Residents organize tree-plantings, street-cleaning and food drives during the winter holidays. Shopping is readily accessible at the malls and big box stores of nearby Centereach. The Bald Hill Cultural Center is home to the outdoor Brookhaven Amphitheater where popular bands and other recording artists regularly perform.
Farmingville is served by the Long Island Railroad station in nearby Ronkonkoma. Long Island MacArthur airport is a short distance away in Islip. The Long Island Expressway is nearby, making the trip by car to just about anywhere on or off the island a convenient undertaking.
